How does the AI assistant work?

To answer a question, the virtual assistant works in two phases based on the Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture (in french) (New window).

The first phase called ‘extraction’ consists of searching for the relevant information available on this website. The search is optimised to ensure that you receive an accurate answer to your question.

The virtual assistant then sends the question and the extracted information to a language model to generate a comprehensible answer. This is the ‘generation phase’. This virtual assistant uses GPT-4o from OpenAI (New window).

Accuracy

Although we strive to provide accurate information, we can't guarantee the accuracy or completeness of the information provided by the AI assistant.

The AI assistant states the sources on which each answer is based.

If in doubt, we always recommend reading the texts on Student at work or contacting an NSSO employee.

Data collection

All conversations with the AI assistant are stored by OpenAI for 30 days. After that, the chat history is deleted. OpenAI does not use the data to train its models. For more information, please visit the Enterprise privacy at Open AI page on the Open AI website (New window).

The NSSO stores the data for a maximum of 3 years in order to track the use of the AI assistant and improve the quality of the app. The temporary storage takes place in a secured Social Security environment managed by Smals on behalf of the NSSO. After a maximum of 3 years, the chat history is deleted and the data is no longer accessible. Your data will not be processed in any other way.

However, as a user, please do not state any personal data or confidential information in your question (e.g. your national registration number, your address, etc.).

IP addresses or other information that enables the user to be identified are not used by the app and are not stored in any way.

Data transfer

The AI assistant uses certain functions and services of the OpenAI API platform. This allows certain data to be sent to OpenAI and received by OpenAI. This data transfer is necessary to support certain functions of the AI assistant and to offer you a better user experience. For more information, please visit the Enterprise privacy at Open AI page on the Open AI website (New window).

If you choose not to do so, please note that all responses provided by the AI assistant are compiled from information that is publicly available on the Student at Work website. You can therefore choose not to use the AI assistant and search for the answers to your questions yourself on our website.

Liability

The NSSO cannot be held liable in any way for the information provided by this AI assistant.

Reporting errors

If you believe that the AI assistant has provided an incorrect or incomplete answer, please let us know so that we can improve its training. You can report errors via a member of the NSSO staff.

By using the AI assistant, you agree to the terms and conditions set out in this text.
